At GLSEN Washington State, we believe one of the greatest promoters of acceptance is knowledge. Therefore, we offer workshops and trainings for educators and those working with young people that provide the tools and information necessary to foster greater awareness of transgender youth and encourage the delivery of culturally competent services. Our workshops and trainings incorporate interactive activities, improving on common lecture-style presentations that simply tell instead of involve.
By providing such services, we hope to reduce the incidence of bullying and harassment based on gender identity and expression. To ensure safe learning environments for transgender youth, educators and those working with youth must first understand the terminology associated with gender identity/expression and learn about the issues they face at home, in school and in society.
